Fila Brasileiro

is a very unique breed .
From an early age most puppies will show distrust of strangers , sometimes backing off

sometimes growling if a person they don’t know will make an attempt to pet them , or simply comes to close .
However some are called late bloomers , and can take several months to develop their

temperament and full Ojeriza , and sometimes puppies will not develop their

temperament at all .
Being around your puppy for about one month will give you an idea how the dog will react around the strangers .

This is where socialization comes in really handy , to build confidence and stability in your puppy .
Fila should be introduced to all of the surroundings from a very early age .
Taking your puppy on regular trips , and being around people will help them understand

that not everything in the environment is a threat to their master .
Fila possesses natural instinct called Ojeriza and the dog temperament can be tested at the age of one year at the shows hosting this type of TT , or simply by taking the dog to the shutzhound class .
Testing your dog on his territory , in his own backyard will not give you accurate results , Fila will always act more protective in his own yard .
First few months in the life of your puppy is a very crucial time when you should never use very hard punishment for simple mistakes the dog will make .
You could easily do more damage instead of correction , and completely destroy self esteem in your young dog .
It’s important to learn very early your fila’s body language , this will help you to understand , how the dog will react and what is coming next , however with older dogs is very important not to let them focus to long if they are not acting friendly no matter if this is person or another animal .
We suggest very strongly to start obedience training and socialization at the age of 4 months and continue for at least one year .
This is for the benefit for the owner , you have to remember Fila is a natural born protective dog and obedience and socialization is for the purpose to create more stable dog .
Not all filas are born equal just as not all bloodlines have the same temperament , but for sure correct Fila is not a friendly type of a dog .
There is a difference between stable fila and a friendly one .
Because the dog is stable it does mean it will willingly accept hugs and touch from a total stranger .
A stable dog means it will behave in the show ring , public places or vet office .
An un socialized Fila can react very unpredictable outside of his own property .
This is not the type of a dog you can take to the park and let them roam around between people walking or jogging and the other dogs playing .
A Fila should never be without the leash outside of his own property and should be always under control by his owner .
And the very important part to remember , even if you decade to socialize your fila it doesn’t mean you will end up with a social dog .
